Shadow warrior

When Shadow Warrior came out on PC in 2013, it was an immediate favorite amongst a certain set of old-school shooter fans. You know, the kind of people who like to hold as many guns as they want rather than a Halo-enforced pair; the kind of people who like to move around levels fast and take down hordes of enemies; the kind of people who enjoy secret doors and non-regenerating health bars and that sort of thing.

Because Shadow Warrior is that kind of game. It’s the kind of game that just doesn’t give a damn. You lop off limbs and heads with your katana with feverish abandon. Blood spurts everywhere, and arms and legs go splaying hither and thither.

The main protagonist, Lo Wang, wise-cracks as he guns down mobs of demons. The guns are all badass and the action is all non-stop, sometimes almost too non-stop, but you go about your bloody business with a grin.

Shadow Warrior is a reboot of the 1997 classic, and while it backs off some of the racially-charged humor of the 3D Realms original, it’s still a hilarious and brilliant shooter. This is a game that’s probably seen more positive user feedback on PC than it did critical reception, with a 73/100 on Metacritic but a 10/10 user feedback average on Steam.
